Making a Change for Mandela Day 2018

Every year a multitude of corporate companies, schools, and individuals alike participate in #MandelaDay, not just locally in South Africa but equally across the globe.

It’s an annual international day in honour of Nelson Mandela, celebrated each year on 18 July, Mandela’s birthday. The day is celebrated as a global call to action that celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world, the ability to make an impact. We honour this by participating in 67 minutes of giving to a cause by means of time, or by means of donating.

The Mandela Day campaign message is:

“Nelson Mandela has fought for social justice for 67 years. We’re asking you to start with 67 minutes. We would be honoured if such a day can serve to bring together people around the world to fight poverty and promote peace, reconciliation and cultural diversity,” according to a statement issued on Mandela’s behalf.

This year in celebration of Mandela Day and to honour this great sentiment, hi.guru‘s MD, Ingrid, and team assisted in sorting and packing groceries to be distributed to the less fortunate. This incredible event was organised by Food Forward SA whose unique mission is:

To reduce hunger in South Africa by safely and cost effectively securing quality food, and making it available to those who need it.

The vibe and encouragement by Food Forward SA and the amazing volunteers kept packing and sorting spirits up and fostered new friendships. View why Food Forward SA do what they do and how many people benefit from this initiative.

Another Surprise

Equally inspiring was a surprise broadcast from Bryan Habana. His words of encouragement and gratitude echoed through the hall into the hearts of everyone there and encouraged even more excitement and enthusiasm.

We can all be a part of creating something purposeful and useful to enhance the quality of life whether it be in business or personally. As said by our hero and icon Madiba:

Part of being optimistic is keeping one’s head pointed toward the sun, one’s feet moving forward.
